The People

Communication and teamwork are key to a happy and productive working environment. Our colleagues range across the spectrum of the profession, from bookkeeping to tax specialists and from new starters to highly experienced. The Location

Our main office is based in the heart of the attractive outlying suburb of London, Esher, and is within easy reach of the mainline station and the A3. Parking is available. The offices were very recently refurbished and provide amenities such as a kitchen area and showers.  Esher itself has a wide range of restaurants, pubs and shops; all of which are within minutes walk of our centrally based office.

The Technology

From trainees to partners, all members of the team have the same powerful technology to hand with dual screen monitors and a laptop provided. Remote access and our suite of cloud accounting software allow you to access all documents securely from anywhere.

Audit and accounts trainees for Spring/Summer 2024

We recruit both school/college leavers with A levels or university graduates
We are looking to recruit ambitious trainees to join our audit and accounts department. We are able to offer a wide range of experience and exposure across a diverse client base.  We offer a 3-year ICAEW apprenticeship training programme. You will receive a combination of structured training and ad-hoc on-the-job learning. Structured training is provided by BPP, one of the most experienced professional training providers.

A major benefit of training with a medium size firm, is the depth and variety of assignments you will be involved with.  You will have exposure to a wide range of assignments with clients of all sizes in various industry sectors. Audit clients cover hospitality, property and construction, manufacturing, investment and the not for profit sector. Trainees benefit from greater involvement and day-to-day interactions with the firm’s partners, who will take a direct interest in your development and support you through your training.

Entry requirements and preferred skills

  • Obtained or on track to obtain a 2:1 degree or above in any subject.  Alternatively school leavers with predicted grades of 3 A levels in core subjects at grades B or above.
  • 120 UCAS points (new system) excluding AS levels and General Studies.
  • GCSE English Language and Maths at grade 4 or above.
  • Strong IT skills particularly Microsoft Excel and Word and outlook
  • Work experience gained in weekend or holiday employment (not necessarily accounting related).

We are looking for trainees who possess good academic qualifications, but academic qualifications are only part of the skill set you require to become a successful accountant.

Accountancy is a people-focused profession, so you must be able to demonstrate you can communicate confidently with colleagues and clients. You will also need excellent team working skills and also the ability to work on your own using your initiative. Studying for professional exams whilst working full-time requires motivation and hard work. You will need to be able to demonstrate you have self-motivation and ambition. We expect our prospective trainees to have researched the professional qualification they are interested in pursuing. Applicants will be expected to demonstrate the skills they have learned during holidays and weekend employment.

Audit Senior

We are looking for an audit senior to work in the audit and accounts department at our Esher office.

The role:

  • Leading audits of financial statements from planning through to completion, including review of junior work
  • Reporting to Audit and Accounts managers and directors
  • Liaising with clients to manage the flow of audit information and resolve queries
  • Preparation and review of statutory accounts
  • Keeping up to date with current legislation and CPD
  • Managing and supporting the development of trainees, including coordinating and resourcing projects, mentoring, counselling and appraising

Qualifications, skills and experience

  • ACA or ACCA-qualified or part qualified
  • Previous experience working in practice and delivering audit and accounts services to clients
  • Excellent working knowledge of UK GAAP and (ideally) IFRS and Financial Reporting requirements
  • Knowledge and experience with Microsoft Office and accounting software packages e.g. CaseWare, Xero, Sage, taxfiler
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Highly organised with a proven ability to meet tight deadlines
  • Able to work under pressure
  • Good team worker

Accounts assistant manager

We are looking for two accounts assistant managers to work in the audit and accounts department at our Esher office.

The role:

  • Overseeing the running of a portfolio of non-audit clients, from chasing in work, agreeing on fees with our clients, reviewing the accounts prepared, and arranging their finalisation and billing.
  • Reporting to Audit and Accounts managers and directors
  • Liaising with clients to manage the flow of non-audit information and resolve queries
  • Keeping up to date with current legislation and CPD
  • Managing and supporting the development of trainees, including coordinating and resourcing projects, mentoring, counselling and appraising

Qualifications, skills and experience
