Press Release - Wellden Turnbull honours student’s outstanding achievements
An A-level student who dreams of running his own business has had his outstanding academic achievements recognised with an award from Cobham-based chartered accountancy firm Wellden Turnbull.
Sam Thomas, who had been a student at Therfield School, in Leatherhead, achieved a top A* grade in his business studies A-level, despite only being predicted a C grade when he sat his earlier AS-level exams.
The 18-year-old was presented with his award – a trophy and a Kindle ‘e-book’ reader – by Wellden Turnbull partner Simon Spevack, who said: “As a firm, we are always keen to support promising young talent such as Sam, who could well go on to become one of the business leaders of tomorrow.
“I am absolutely delighted to be able to present this award to Sam, who has clearly worked extremely hard to achieve such an outstanding grade. Hopefully he will remember Wellden Turnbull when he sets up his own business and needs an accountant!”
Sam, who would eventually like to run his own business, plans to go to university, although he will first travel around the world on a gap-year while he decides which course and career path to take. He is currently working at a communications business in Leatherhead while he saves up for his travels.
Claire Britton, head of business studies at the school, said: “Sam has a genuine interest in business issues and always kept up to date with current affairs. He has always had a consistent approach to learning and showed a willingness to persevere with difficult ideas.
“This attitude to his studies has allowed him to excel and achieve an outstanding A* grade, while his 100 per cent attendance record and involvement in his learning made him a pleasure to teach over the last two years.”
